Sound Sultan – It is a great shock hitting the Nigerian Entertainment industry with the sad news of the untimely demise of our talented Singer-songwriter, rapper, comedian, actor, musician, record producer, executive producer, and basketball club co-owner.
In the Nigerian entertainment industry, Sound Sultan is a known legend ever.
While we mourn, it is also necessary for us to have insights into the young man’s achievements. His achievements will make us celebrate him even in death, a legend.
Who is Sound Sultan?
His original name is Olanrewaju Ganiu Fasasi but popularly known by his artist name as Sound Sultan. On November 27, 1976, he was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, and died on July 11, 2021, at 44.


Sound Sultan Musical Career
Sound Sultan’s music career started in the early 90s when he became interested in writing lyrics for his songs, hosting shows to raise money to record his music in the studio. In his secondary school, he already mastered how to play guitar and joined a musical band. Although a very talented musician, the influence of his elder brother, Dare Fassai, aka Baba Dee, played a good role in the early life of Sound Sultan as a music legend.
In the year 2,000, Sound Sultan released his first hit single titled “Jagbajantis.” The popularity of the track got him more collaborations with various Nigerian artists in the music industry. With all these outstanding achievements, Kennis Music signed Sound Sultan. But, unfortunately, his record deal contract with Kennis Music ended in 2007.
In partnership with his elder brother, Baba Dee, Sound Sultan started their own record label company known as Naija Ninjas.
Sound Sultan’s lifetime and net worth
In his lifetime, Sound Sultan achieved a lot in the music industry and the other part of the Nigerian entertainment industry. In 2012 Sound Sultans album Back from the future was nominated at The Headies Award under the album of the year category.

Sound Sultan got married to his long-term girlfriend, known initially as Chichi Morah, originally from the Igbo ethnic group of Nigeria but now known as Farida Fasasi. After getting married to Sound Sultan, Chichi Morah converted to Islam from the Christian religious faith. Sound Sultan himself cleared out the controversies surrounding Chichi’s alleged forceful conversion to Islam.

Cause of Death
The media widely reported in May 2021 that Sound Sultan is somewhere in America, receiving treatment in the form of chemotherapy as the musician was reportedly diagnosed with throat cancer. But a publication by THE NATION stated that his elder brother, Baba Dee debunked the news of Sound Sultan having throat cancer.
But according to the announcement made by Sound Sultan’s family member, Dr. Kayode Fasasi, on behalf of the Fasasi family, it happened that Sound Sultan died due to a more complicated illness.


In his words, he said:
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our multitalented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan. “He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.
“He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings. We, his family, will appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.”
